Rear Wheels and accessories

An important aspect when ordering your wheelchair is the Choices for the fitting wheels. Also here we offer you the option to fit your wheelchair to your desires and needs. Find the fitting combination for you consisting of the following rear wheels, handrims, tyres and casters.

Rear Wheel

Rear Wheel

We offer rear wheels for our wheelchairs in the sizes 18″ to 26″ and for our mobile standing device Boogie Drive in the sizes 24″ to 36″. Choose your rear wheel from the following options:

Standard wheel

Our standard allround wheel. Equipped for most life situations.

With pneumatic or solid rubber tyres: 1“ or 1 3/8“ width for 20“-26“ diameter

Light weight wheels

Light weight wheels are optimized in their weight features and offer in comparison to standard wheels a weight reduction of almost 0,9 kg per wheel.  Therefore they are suitable for activ drivers. However, drum brakes are not available for light weight wheels.

With pneumatic wheels: 1“ width with 20“-24“ diameter

Profile wheels

The profile wheel combines a standard wheel with a built in handrim. This way not only is the danger of finger injuries minimized, also the gripping options are optimized. Additionally, you can better the grip with silicone covers and ergo-inlays in order to, for example, make driving with the heel of your hand easier.

With pneumatic or solid rubber tyres: 1“ width possible for 20“-36“ diameter, 1 3/8“ width possible for 20″-26“

Special wheels: 12″ wheels

For our model LoopSORG we offer 12“ wheels instead of normal rear wheels without surcharge. In our technical department for customized requests these are also possible on other models. 12″ wheels are a useful equipment option when a wheelchair is used only for pushing and the user should not have access to the wheels.

Pneumatic and flat free tyres: 21/4“ width for 12“ diameter

Tyres

Tyres

Standard Tyres

Our standard tyres allow you to choose without a surcharge and dependent on the desired comfort. With the red and blue versions of the Schwalbe Right Run you have the option to set colour accents for a small surcharge (coloured tyres only with 24″).

Schwalbe Right Run

This tyre guarantees smoothness and has a subtle design, which sets colour accents. Choose the standard tyre with gray inlay or underline your wheelchair design for a small surcharge with red or blue tyre inlays.

Pneumatic Standard

This tyre combines the comfort of pneumatic tyres and the resistant of PU tyres. A little wider than the Schwalbe Right Run, yet in comparison it lacks smoothness, but is also without surcharge.

Flat free Standard

This classic under the wheelchair tyres is a real carefree package. Compared to pneumatic tyres you may lose driving comfort, but you never have to worry about possible flats or air pressure. This is because this tyre is made of resistant and long life polyurethane and is also available without surcharge

Special tyres

For a small additional price we also offer further special tyres, particularly useful for higher demands:

Schwalbe Marathon Plus

These tyres combine the smoothness and comfort of pneumatic tyres with the security of flat free solid tyres. Schwalbe’s SmartGuard® flat-free mechanism guarantees a free and safe journey at any time. Furthermore, the 2grip® technology grants perfectly smooth side faces to protect your hands.

Handrims

Handrims

The handrim fitting to your rear wheel

  • Standard wheels: With our standard wheels you have the most choice possibilities. Choose between aluminum or stainless steel handrims, choose a Maxgrepp handrim or a removable silicone cover and choose the desired mounting option of your handrim.
  • Light weight wheels: Our light weight wheels come with an already mounted aluminum handrim, which we would also be glad to deliver in a colour of your choice. Maxgrepp handrims or silicone covers are also possible here.
  • Profile wheels: Profile wheels have a built in handrim. To better your gripping comfort you can equip it with an ergo-inlay or a silicone cover.

Further handrim options

Maxgrepp handrims

Maxgrepp handrims can be mounted on standard or light weight wheels and close the space between rim and handrim. They are 33 mm wide, ergonomically formed for driving with the heel of your hand, made of silicone and make driving easier especially for users with impaired fine motor skills.

Maxgrepp handrims  are available in sizes 20“-24”.

Ergo handrims for profile wheels

This handrim cover is in its function quite similar to the Maxgrepp handrim, yet with a smaller inlay of only 13mm width. Ergo handrims are only available in combination with profile wheels. The comfortably soft surface allows enough grip for driving with the heel of your hand.

Silicone handrim cover

The allrounder hand rim cover for standard, light weight and profile wheels. Thanks to its very soft silicone surface it enlarges the diameter of the handrim and guarantees perfect grip.

Double handrim

With the one-hand aid, double handrim, there are two handrims with different diameters mounted on one side, whereby the bigger one moves the wheel on the same side and the smaller one is connected to the opposite wheel with a connecting axle. This way the use of one handrim allows you to drive round curbs and the use of both handrims allows you to drive straight ahead. The connecting axle can easily be mounted or demounted and allows the use of a double handrim on foldable wheelchairs.

Handrim with knobs

The nub ring allows tetraplegics or roller-skiers with missing or restricted finger or hand function the independent movement by means of knobs. The power transmission to the wheelchair is facilitated thanks to the knobs, which means that longer journeys are no problem. Please note that braking is not possible due to the knobs! Particularly when driving downhill, an experienced and strong companion should help, because the knobs always turn, even when you are pushed.

Ergonomic handrim

The ergonomic grip allows tetraplegics or roller-skiers with missing or restricted finger or hand function as well as better control and force transfer, thanks to its larger support surface for the thumb. As its name suggests, the gripping ring is not round but has a special ergonomic shape, which makes it easier for wheelchair users to ride longer and decelerate.
